Kyoto Aqueduct

Around 150 years ago,  a plan was made to build a canal through the mountains to pipe water from Lake Biwa to Kyoto.  Lake Biwa is the largest freshwater lake in Japan. The stone Aqueduct behind Nanzen Temple is a part of that canal and still carries water today.
