Path through the hills

The staff at the Ryokan I'm staying at suggested that I keep going on the path past the shrine as it gives great views of Kyoto.  Unfortunately I took a wrong turn (turned left instead of right) which put me on an interesting and sometimes narrow path down the hills into Nanzen Temple.
